Blazenka Pocrnja - aka Blaze

I stepped on a yoga mat for the first time in 2012. Within the first few classes I was hooked β€” on the yoga practice, but also on the amazing new friends of fellow students and teachers I met in the studio. The community of yoga practitioners around me inspired and motivated me to continue to show up and now I am gladly still part of the community today.

My first yoga training was in 2017; since then I have amassed hundreds of additional yoga training hours. I am a dedicated student first - I learn for myself and also because I love to share the knowledge and practice with the community around me.

I am a level 2 Certified Rocket Yoga Teacher and I continue to build my expertise and training so that I can help you grow your practice as well.

I truly believe in practicing what I teach and teaching what I practice.

Jeff Der - Retreat Coordinator

I first attended yoga in 2008 to add some stretching to complement my routine of strength training and kickboxing. Little did I know this would become a core of who I am, with benefits that were more than just physical from finding connection to pranayama, philosophy and mindfulness.

At the time, I was also studying for my Chartered Accountant professional designation. After morning practice, I found I was able to study and focus with such clarity not previously present during University, in addition to being able to handle the hectic pressures of the business world with a calm yet effective mind.

Seeing the beneficial effects, I took my first 200 hour YTT with Gaiatri Yoga Training in 2012 to go into the depths of what yoga has to offer, and have been a workshop, intensive, retreat and training enthusiast since. Studying with variations and adjustments to accommodate for every body being different in order to get a similar effect, and fine tuning with micro adjustments is what I’m passionate about. It’s truly inspiring when someone says they can’t do something, then with a little realignment they unlock abilities which were previously held back.

Finding practice with Blaze and inversions has completely renewed my fire to push what the human body is capable of, with a reminder to keep moving and continue to play as we get older. My little boys tell me I’m only forty, but look a hundred… so I guess I better stay limber to not move like an old man they think I am!

I’ll be here to support Blaze with managing the retreat’s logistics, finances and coordination to allow her to focus on what she does best - making us fly!

Hope to see you seaside!

What is Rocket?

Rocket Yoga is also known as Progressive Ashtanga Vinyasa.

This dynamic style of yoga was developed by Larry Schultz in San Francisco. Larry was a student of Pattabhi Jois who adapted the postures and sequencing of Rocket yoga from the primary, intermediate, and advanced series of Ashtanga yoga.

Rocket yoga is designed β€œwake up the nervous system and feed it the precious prana it craves while promoting the spirit of change and freedom in the practice.”

Rocket yoga honours the core values and teaching of Ashtanga yoga while also providing a foundation of freedom and openness for teachers and students to introduce their own creative modifications to the series.

Fun Fact: Larry toured with the Grateful Dead and taught Rocket yoga to the band. Bob Wier is credited for the name β€œRocket” and the phrase, β€œit gets you there faster!”
